Active Travel Zone Assessments
Active Travel Zone (ATZ) assessments are required by Transport for London (TfL) for most London developments, particularly those that require the input of a Transport Assessment. They assess the quality of the existing pedestrian and cycle environment between the site and the surrounding area. The purpose of an ATZ is to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions where required.
The ATZ assessment is based on the Healthy Streets approach and supports Vision Zero for London which aims to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network by 2041.
An ATZ includes:
-
Mapping of key destinations and routing;
-
Assessing each key route against the 10 Healthy Street indicators by conducting an appraisal and on-site assessment;
-
Assess KSIs along each key route and suggest changes for any clusters which would make the area safer; and
-
Prepare an ATZ report summarising the findings and confirming whether any improvements are required.
